Reduce verification
costs by 50%

Every year, schools spend an estimated $50 billion on residency verification, with outdated paper processes. Electronic residency verification by Respect can cut this workload in half, saving both registrars and parents time.

How Respect solves the problem

Chart of percentage of student families with residential information in public record.

For each of the 50.7 million students in the United States1, parents must submit multiple forms of documentation. Registrars must validate this documentation, consult maps to determine district membership, and follow up on any discrepancies. This process is especially taxing for returning families who have to revalidate their information annually.

According to the NCES, over 50% of public school families have residence information that is part of official public record2. Respect automates these lookups and eliminates the burden of revalidation. Additionally, Respect incorporates a multitude of automated and manual checks for invalid residences, all built on a proven technology platform.

Better boundary checking

It is common to use GIS, or similar mapping techniques, to ensure that an address lies within district boundaries. However, this can be error-prone for addresses that lie near boundaries.

Converting the address to a latitude and longitude, known as reverse geocoding, may be imprecise.

Respect flags addresses near boundaries and performs manual checks on them. This achieves truly accurate boundary checking.

Residence or business?

Despite the extensive amount of submitted documentation -- leases, utility bills, bank statements, and so forth -- it may be possible to subtly pass off a business location as a residence.

For example, it can be possible to submit utility bills for a small office building rather than a residence.

Respect performs manual checks to determine true status of a location. We don't rely on database lookups alone.

Detect residency change

Cheaply verify everyone,
not just new students.

30 million Americans move every year, potentially "hopping" from one district to another. We detect moves, changes in ownership, and other evidence of residence change. We ensure the integrity of your entire enrollment - without burdening either parents or registrars.

We've seen it all.

Collectively, Respect's employees have identified thousands of instances of invalid addresses. We're familiar with the subtle techniques employed to avoid detection.

Only the freshest data

Many districts have adopted electronic verification systems. Private investigators use these systems to submit names and addresses to vast databases.

These databases seem authoritative, but, they often yield excessive information. Sometimes this information includes stale data.

Respect's results reflect only the latest data.

Privacy and ethics
are paramount

Respect doesn't demand sensitive documentation and personal information. We don't scour credit histories. We don't spy and we don't conduct physical investigations.

Respect uses only names and addresses - or simply addresses alone. Our novel process emphasizes screening addresses rather than personal identities. After our work is done, we delete the data you submitted.

Great for districts
of all sizes

For small districts with limited budgets, Respect is an inexpensive way to adopt new technology and processes. For large districts with dedicated auditing teams, Respect is a scalable, low-risk way to independently confirm your team’s work.
